What's it really like? Transfer time: Approx 25 minutes Location: A typical Greek tourist resort providing adequate amenities. Surrounded by lush green countryside it is best suited to families and mature couples although there are signs that it could be ready to turn the corner and become a bit brash. So far the locals have resisted too many touristy gimmicks and they may just decide to preserve their traditional values for good - watch this space! Much of the accommodation is either quite isolated or on steep hills so may not be suitable for the less mobile. Some roads are unlit at night so pack a torch. Beaches: A glorious beach comprising good quality sand plus a few stony patches, stretching for 2 kilometres. Several bars serve snacks and drinks during the day. The shallow waters, soft sand and various Watersports make it the main daytime focus. Days out: Very little to distract visitors away for the beach with the exception of country walks which are becoming popular here. There's more to do in Zakynthos Town, about 10 minutes away by taxi, where there are boat trips and other excursions on offer. Basic mini-markets and souvenir shops a-plenty. Nights out: Ample bars and tavernas offer subdued evenings supplemented by karaoke and a couple of nightclubs, nothing rowdy. There are dozens of restaurants, mostly concentrated along the main road through the town with anything from Greek to English food on the menu. Bucket and Spade Brigade: Sandy beach ( a little bit stony underfoot in patches) and the shallow, warm sea make it ideal for small children. Good choice for close-knit families who prefer life's simple pleasures. Some parts may be unsuitable for children in buggies - check with your tour operator. |
