Koukounaries A picturesque and peaceful resort (except for the day trippers) set around the best tourist beaches on the island and a lake (see above photo).. Most of the focus here is on relaxation and for those seeking more we suggest hiring a car or heading for Skiathos Town. Some of the accommodation may be set back in the hills and pavements are scarce. Nights Out: Taverna-based Beach: One of the best in the Med. drawing visitors from across the island. It's just less than a mile of soft, fine sand with snacks, etc. available throughout the day. There are toilets and showers, too. Slightly further north and within walking distance are Banana beach and Little Banana beach which is favoured by naturists. Transfer time (approx): 40 minutes Kolios/Troulos/Aghia Paraskevi Three neighbouring resorts for those who prefer simple pleasures. Set around a bay, each small town has its own scattering of tavernas and gift shops, providing just enough of the basics for an undemanding, beach-based holiday. A few low-rise apartment blocks are dotted here and there, including a couple of small developments on the beachfront but they blend in well. The road that cuts through the resorts can get busy and the lack of pavements can make pedestrians easy prey. Some parts can be hilly. Days Out: Little in the way of local entertainments except, perhaps for hill walking. Skiathos Town is the main starting point for day trips, etc. Small supermarkets provide the essentials Nights Out: Generally quiet, taverna-style restaurants offering the usual tourist tummy fillers. Some 'live' music, karaoke, etc. Beach: Safe and sandy, ideal for families with shallows waters for several hundred metres. Pine trees creeping down to coast provide some natural shade or there are parasols for hire. Within walking distance are several smaller coves to explore. Transfer time (approx): 35 minutes. |
