Sidari

What's it really like?

Transfer time: Approx 90 minutes

Location:

Set around a protective bay which cups a pretty, sandy beach, Sidari is one of Corfu's biggest resorts which has gone for tourism in a highly unoriginal manner.

The authorities have allowed the bars along the main street to employ neon lights, loud music and other gimmicks to attract customers, thereby canceling out the idyllic surroundings and the authentic village atmosphere retained near the harbour.

The town centre can become quite noisy, especially at night. Care is needed on the busy main streets due to a lack of footpaths.

All around are the unusual sandstone rock formations which have been fashioned into caves and tunnels; the most famous is the Canal d'Amour.

According to legend, couples who swim through it will stay in love forever.

Beaches:

A long, narrow stretch of sand lapped by famously warm, shallow waters.

The main beach is served by a few bars during the day. Some nearby bays are popular with naturists.

Lots of water sports.

Days out:

Boat trips along the coast. Local shops sell souvenirs and major grocery needs.

Buses to Corfu Town. Further afield is Aqualand - the island's only theme park.

Nights out:

An abundance of bars, some with 'live' music, karaoke and large screen TV. Restaurants range from local specialties to well-known fast food.

Bucket and Spade Brigade:

Ideal beach resort for younger ones thanks to shallow waters. Care needed on busy streets with no pavements. Teenagers are attracted to the handful of clubs, nothing rowdy.
