What's it really like ? Transfer time: Approx 50 minutes Location: Santa Ponsa grew up in the 60's with nearby Magaluf, and has become desperately in need of a facelift along the main streets and seafront areas. It now has a wider promenade and a larger beach thanks to a major cash-injection however most of the money in recent years has gone into expanding the town inwards with newer developments. The resort has a strong British feel. Between the highrise apartments the backdrop is pretty enough with pine clad hills overlooking the long, sweeping bay. Beaches: Parasols and loungers, laid out in neat rows dominate this long, wide stretch of beach which has been artificially extended in areas to cope with the swelling numbers of summer visitors. The sand is generally good, and the water's clean and sheltered. Watersports - including pedalos, scuba-diving and water skiing. Days Out: Two golf courses and Marineland-a popular day out for visitors from coast to coast. Dolphin shows are the main attraction and these happen at regular intervals. Side shows are provided by sea lions, plus; birds, monkeys and creepy things. Nights Out: Many restaurants offer varied menus and are quite upmarket, in addition to those which churn out the typical resort recipes. Dozens of bars, with flashing neons beckoning you in, and clubs for those who just can't say 'goodnight'. Organised dinner shows like 'Pirates' are thoroughly recommended. Bucket and Spade brigade: With Marineland just a few miles north that's at least one day taken care of. The beach is safe and clean with soft sand although overcrowding is a problem in places. There's a tree-lined park close to the beach which will help to cool everyone down. |
