What's it really like ? Transfer time: Approx 60 minutes Location: Purpose-built within the last 20 years with the British in mind, hence the abundance ex-pats who've set up businesses here ... mostly pubs. As the resort is still quite new, much of the landscaping hasn't had time to get established yet, giving some areas a rather bland appearance. Development is still going on in places, check with your tour operator for nearby building work. Not as rowdy than its nearest neighbour Ayia Napa but only a short taxi ride away from all the action. Set on flat terrain making it ideal for the less mobile. Beaches: Among the best stretch of coastline in Cyprus. A winner of the Blue flag and set on white sand with shallow waters and snack bars dotted about. Secluded beaches and rocky inlets a short distance away at the Cape of Cave Greco. Days out: Watersports along the beach and scuba diving at the unspoilt Cape Greco. One curiosity close by is the island's oldest fig tree in the grounds of a taverna at Fig Tree Bay. Modern attractions include a water park at Ayia Napa. Further afield are The Tombs of Kings which date from about 3 BC with spectacular architecture from the period - take extreme care with children due to an unguarded drop. Also popular with day trippers are the stunning Troodos Mountains, Kykkos Monastery and the divided city of Nicosia. Pleasure boat trips go along the coast to the famous deserted town Famagusta. Souvenir shops and mini-markets are scattered around; all the basic but no great choice. To fully enjoy the sites around the island we recommend hiring a car. Nights out: Music bars, Karaoke, pubs and a couple of nightclubs. A vast selection of places to eat offering the staple tourist diet of pizzas, burgers and variations on lamb. Bucket and Spade Brigade: The gently shelving beach offers safe play and swimming for kids. No hills or steep climbs to worry parents with very young children. Ayia Napa's new water park has wet fun for all ages. Note: Some youngsters may find the heat too intense during the very hot summer months. |
