What's it really like ? Transfer time: Approx 40 minutes Location: A typical tourist town for families built against a backdrop of woodland and green scrubland which creeps down to the coast. Set around a lovely bay where, movie legend has it, South Pacific was filmed ( can't see Bali Hi, though!). Portinatx is ideal for reclusive families because of it's location - the resort is out on a limb and not the best place from which to explore. The town is pleasant with just enough amenities to keep it ticking over. Quite hilly, and therefore many apartments have lots of steps. Beaches: There are four small sandy strips of beach dotted around the bay which are all sheltered and clean. Each one can be accessed on foot although inevitably they can get crowded at peak times. Watersports available, plus a diving school if you fancy exploring the depths. The crystal clear water here and rocky surroundings also makes snorkelling popular. Days Out: A waterpark and boat trips locally. There are limited bus services to Ibiza Town and car hire is recommended if you're serious about exploring further afield. The town has a modest shopping centre with more souvenir outlets scattered about. Nights Out: Portinatx caters perfectly for quiet-seekers so the liveliest the nightlife gets is music bars. One rather tame club by Ibiza's standards provides dancing for night owls. Bucket and Spade Brigade: The beaches are safe and sandy for children and there's probably just enough going on in resort to keep them amused. If your children are poor travellers be aware the road to Portinatx is quite mountainous. |
