What's it really like ? Transfer time: Approx 60 minutes Location: Once a small fishing village, C'an Picafort shares the same enormous, sweeping bay with Alcudia. Built around a good size beach it is a quieter resort than its neighbour with a promenade in the town centre with quiet a built-up feel. Although much of the town is purpose-built there still remains a small working harbour lined with cafés and bars. By contrast, on the outskirts of town the landscape opens up and there are picturesque sand dunes and nature reserve rolling down to the sea. This is a firm favourite with German visitors. Beaches: There are basically two beaches here, both of equal quality offering soft sand and room to stretch out The beach is well equipped with sun loungers and parasols which tend to concentrate bodies and cause overcrowding. For some space, take your towels and set up camp out of town. Days Out: There's not much to distract visitors from the beach unless they go further afield to see the sights around the island or the water park. alcudia is good for a visit especially the superior beach and shops. Other island attractions such as the caves of Drach are also within reach There's no shortage of shops in the town especially in the main commercial centre near the promenade. There are water sports and boat trips and bargain hunters flock to the market each Friday A 5 mile cycle lane exists between C'an Picafort and Alcudia Nights Out: C'an Picafort has a good selection of restaurants along the promenade although there's a constant dispute between traders and the local authorities over tables obstructing the pavement. There's a calm family atmosphere to the place even late at night with mainly low-key entertainment. A good choice of restaurants and fast food outlets bring the place alive at night. Bucket and Spade Brigade: The safe sandy beach and nearby water park act as a magnet for families. |
