What's it really like ? Transfer time (approx): 60 minutes Location: An immaculate village 5 miles from the coast. As the crow flies Mijas is probably nearer to Benalmadena but the mountain road begins on the outskirts of Fuengirola. In terms of appearance it could be on a different planet because this quaint hillside village has only one hotel, with several others just keeping a polite distance away. It would be the ideal place to escape except Mijas is such a pretty little hamlet it can get crowded with daytrippers who come to admire the superb views of the coast, and for donkey rides through the streets. Due to its hilly location Mijas is not recommended for the less mobile. Beach: None. The nearest is down the hill in Fuengirola. Days Out: Mijas is one of the Costa del Sol's main attractions and for it's size and location has quite a lot going for it with its own museums and a lovely church which is open to the public. The charming little town centre has been pedestrianised (using colourful paving tiles) and is crammed with souvenir shops and open-air cafes. Fuengirola is a short taxi ride away if you're craving the hustle and bustle. Professional tennis coaching with excellent clay courts is available nearby. Nights Out: Venture down to Fuengirola for some action otherwise soak up the traditional charm of Mijas in one the many low-key bars. Bucket and Spade Brigade: Very little for the kids. If you like the sound of Mijas but have children in tow try Nerja or Mojacar which are just as quaint but not as remote. |
