What's it really like? Transfer time: Approx 45 minutes Location: Neighbouring resorts set close to the Messonghi river - a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Beautiful scenery, unspoilt by the dozen or so, low-rise apartment complexes which are well camouflaged by trees or olive groves. Messonghi tends to be the quieter of the two resorts attracting undemanding families content with a beach holiday. The village consists of one road and has little in the way of atmosphere. Moraitika, on the other hand is a bit more substantial, appealing to younger holidaymakers who come for the nightlife, although it isn't part of the 18-30 scene. Footpaths are rare so great care is needed when walking on the roads. Beaches: Both resorts have good beaches of sand and pebbles. Bars along the seafront serve drinks and snacks. Watersports include para-gliding, windsurfing and pedaloes. Days out: Mainly beach activities and walking. Boat trips to neighbouring beaches. Shopping is for basic needs and souvenirs. Nights out: Traditional tavernas scattered about in addition to a few clubs. Nothing too rowdy. Restaurants offer some authentic Greek menus, mainly for tourist tastes. Bucket and Spade Brigade: Strictly for beach babes. Watch the unpaved roads and mosquitoes. |
