Menorca west

What's it really like ?

Cala'n Forcat, Cala Blanes and Los Delfines are three resorts in one - each built around the rugged coastline, choking the tiny rocky inlets.

Even though these tourist towns have expanded they've brought very little to the party...except more holidaymakers. Infact, there's probably been too much development considering the limited amount of accessible coastline.

The postage stamp-size beaches simply can't accommodate everyone in the summer months and quickly become overcrowded.

Cala'n Forcat

This tiny cove is a fascinating narrow inlet winding between two tiny sheltered beaches

Here you'll find ledges to sunbathe on and clear shallow water.

It is reached by about 50 steps and perhaps the only drawback is the hotel perched above which may spoil the view.

In the resort there's a water park and some good facilities for younger children with fun parks and play areas in many of the restaurants.

Cala Blanes is next door to Cala'n Forcat nestled around an even smaller beach.

Dozens of bars, restaurants and shops are scattered around offering plenty of basics.

A tourist train roams the streets and regular buses link the resort with the ancient town of Ciudadela, which is a joy to explore.

Otherwise, most people make their own entertainment.

Transfer time (approx) 80 minutes.

Cala'n Bosch

A fairly well-scattered resort consisting mainly of villas set on small estates and a few hotels.

The focal point is a large modern marina almost completely encircled by restaurants and bars.

Beach

A recent winner of the 'Blue Flag' for cleanliness, the beach here is sandy and slopes gently into the sea making it ideal for youngsters.

However it's small and gets overcrowded during the summer months and the sand is littered with stones and small rocks.

A bar serves drinks and snacks by the sea but water sports are limited.

Other features:

Boat trips from the marina are popular and good value for money stopping at lots of isolated beaches along the coast.

There's also a water park within walking distance of most of the accommodation and mini-golf near the marina

Though Cala'n Bosch has a wide choice of shops...again there's little in the way of variety.

In the evening most people head for the marina where there's usually 'live' entertainment and a big choice of places to eat.

Exploring the rest of the island means a detour up the north road to Ciutadella before you can start to head south.

Some accommodation may be close to traffic noise.

Transfer time (approx): 80 minutes.
