What's it really like ? Transfer time: Approx 15 minutes Location: A small traditional village, and still very much occupied by locals, untouched by the usual commercial tourist tat. It is set around a lush green bay cupped by hillsides and welcomes older visitors, undemanding couples and walkers. Aircraft noise can be heard though most visitors find plane spotting more of a novelty than a nuisance. The seafront is rather unattractive being more a functional home for fishing boats along the grey pebble beach; a car park completes the scene; the village itself is prettier. Not suitable for anyone seeking an active holiday, or the less mobile. Beaches: A small curve of pebbles furnished with a few sun loungers, etc. Limited water sports include windsurfing, fishing and scuba diving courtesy of the nearby Dom Pedro Hotel. Days out: Country walks along the old irrigation channels of levedas. Golf about 18kms away. Shops, and a small shopping centre provide all the basics. Nights out: A fair choice of quiet bars. Plenty of restaurants scattered about offering a good variety of food. Bucket and Spade Brigade: Not recommended for children due to lack of amenities. |
