What's it it really like? Transfer time: Approx 40 minutes from Jerez de la Frontera (or sometimes just called Jerez) airport, 1 hr 30 mins from Seville and 3 hours from Malaga Location: La Barrosa is a well loved Spanish holiday resort. It has just recently been found by the English and Germans but is still predominantly Spanish so take a dictionary unless you are fluent. The resort of La Barrosa is located in the Cadiz province of the Costa de la Luz, Spain. It is a beach resort with a wonderful chilled-out atmosphere in the winter and a great buzz in the summer when all the Spaniards come down from mainland Spain to cool off. The resort is located near the southern-most tip of Spain facing the Atlantic Ocean so the lovely breeze in the Summer time takes the edge of the heat. The resort has strict building regulations like the rest of the Costa de la Luz coast-line and there are no buildings above 3 storeys. There are shops, restaurants, bars, supermarkets along the La Barrosa high street and also part of the beach front. Beach: The white sands of La Barrosa beach reach for 8kms and have recently awarded the 'Blue Flag' for cleanliness. The beach can be quite busy in the Summer months but it's large enough to find a patch all to yourself. Life guards patrol from June to September. There are areas along the coast that are more built-up with low rise buildings, restaurants and bars (nothing over 3 storeys high) and other parts of the beach are completely natural. In the winter the beach can be deserted but those lavente winds can whip up quite a sandstorm Days Out: La Barrosa is a handy base for exploring the region with places such as the wonderful cities of Cadiz, Seville and the Sherry Capital Jerez de la Frontera. The white villages of Vejer, Medina Sidonia and Arcos are also within reach. In the summer there are plenty of water sports and a horse-riding school. Golfers can get into their swing at the 36 hole Novo Sancti Petri Golf Club (http://www.golf-novosancti.es/) designed by Severiano Ballesteros. There are also several other golf courses located within driving distance. A fairly regular bus serves other local resorts. Nights Out: No night clubs here, mainly bars and restaurants. A perfect chill out resort in the evening with typical Spanish tapas. Winter months are quieter with only around 40% of the restaurants/bars open Bucket and Spade Brigade: The kiddies will love the vast expanse of La Barrosa beach with plenty of room to run and play. Younger ones will also enjoy exploring the rock pools that form at the natural end of the beach looking for crabs and fish The sand is clean and when the tide comes in the water is very shallow and warm in the summer/early autumn months.
