What's it really like? Transfer time: Approx 90 minutes. Location: Set around an unspoilt and very pretty harbour, Kassiopi has expanded along the coast and inland into the mountains with low-rise apartments camouflaged by the cypress and olive trees. Cottage industries have been kept alive here by the wives of the fishermen and it all seems to go hand-in-hand with tourism. The emphasis is on peace and quiet by day, with a few places to let your hair down at night; nothing over-the-top. A busy road through the village shouldn't spoil the mood too much - after all life still goes on here much as it did before holidaymakers arrived. Beaches: Mainly small bays of pebbles or shingle, picturesque but uncomfortable on the feet. A good range of watersports. Days out: The usual boat trips along the coast and some fishing excursions. 'Aqualand' waterpark and a golf course are both near to Ermones. Regular buses to neighbouring resorts and Corfu Town. For shoppers and self-caterers there are ample mini-markets and bazaars. Nights out: Traditional tavernas compete with music-bars and a couple of nightclubs, nothing rowdy. Restaurants range from authentic Greek to Chinese and Italian-style to add a bit of variety. Tavernas by the harbour provide a peaceful retreat. Bucket and Spade Brigade: Safe, shallow bathing for kids in the sea. Shingle beaches may disappoint due to lack of sand. A heart-stopping journey through some winding mountain roads to 'Aqualand'. |
