What's it really like? Transfer time: Approx 15 minutes Location: Set against a backdrop of bare hills the original village square remains with narrow streets leading off it. However this isn't the place for those seeking the real Greece. Make no mistake this is one helluva resort aimed squarely at young Brits and providing many of the home comforts they demand. 'Bonkers' is the name of one of the music bars and it sums up the entire place, especially at night when the town lights up for the big noise. If size matters to you then Kardamena remains fairly compact which means less distance to stagger after a night out. Some accommodation in the centre may be prone to traffic noise during the day. Beaches: One excellent beach with good quality sand, with an inferior, gritty affair east of the harbour. The main stretch in the resort centre is the busiest and is backed by tavernas serving drinks and snacks. There are more peaceful retreats further out. Watersports include; skiing, paragliding, banana boats and there's even a scuba diving club. Days out: Boat trips to Kos Town and the nearby volcano Nissyros (see also Kos main page). Shops and mini-markets provide all the basics. There are better opportunities in Kos Town (40 minutes drive away). Nights out: A hundred or more bars/tavernas/pubs offering music, karaoke or TV, however the serious clubber may be disappointed with the limited choice of dance venues; about 4 (may be entry charge). Scores of restaurants cater for those wanting fast food, fish and chips, Italian, Chinese or Indian. There may even be the odd Greek menu for connoisseurs. Many visitors also head off to Kos Town for a change of scene at night. Bucket and Spade Brigade: This resort is more aimed at older 'kids'. |
