Glyfada/Ermones What's it really like? Transfer time: Approx 30 minutes Location: The journey from the airport through the mountainous countryside to Glyfada and Ermones is not for the faint-hearted. Glyfada is set around a huge beach and is an area also favoured by locals so it gets busy at weekends and holidays. Ermones is also backed by forested hills and is only for those seeking solitude or golf. There is no centre to either resort but their combined size is small enough for it not to matter. Both resorts are hilly and not recommended for the less mobile. Seasoned walkers may also find their legs tiring from some of the steep paths and roads. Beaches: Glyfada has an exceptional sandy beach with an abundance of water sports plus a few beach bars scattered up it's length. Ermones' beach is smaller and made up of sand and pebbles. The water gets deep in places so care is needed with kids. Also, some wild winds can whip up the sea along this coast bringing strong tides and seaweed. Days out: 'Aqualand' - the island's water park is a short drive away. Both resorts are also close to Corfu's one and only golf course (10 minutes). Ermones has a pony trekking centre for rides through breathtaking countryside. Shopping here is strictly for essentials only, with just a sprinkling of mini-markets and souvenir vendors. Nights out: Low-key nightclubs, quiet tavernas for eating and drinking. The resorts tend to close down around midnight or earlier. Close to Pelekes which is a favourite for day trippers thanks to its spectacular sunsets. Take a torch in resort as there is little in the way of street lighting. Bucket and Spade Brigade: Good beaches (Glyfada especially) and close to 'Aqualand' for some wet and wild fun. Not recommended for small children in buggies due to hilly location. |
