Fuengirola

What's it really like ?

Transfer time (approx): 45 minutes

Location:

Not as densely built up or 'in-yer-face' as Torremelinos, but Fuengirola still has its fair share of essentials for fun-loving families.

Certain parts of the town are in need of a facelift and some of the clay-coloured apartment blocks give the place a business-like appearance.

However, on the whole this is a popular choice for people with kids who want a bit more going on than the average resort.

Perhaps the best man-made feature is the long promenade which was rebuilt a few years ago - it has been beautifully landscaped and hugs the seafront with a string of open-air cafes and shops.

The road connecting Fuengirola to Benalmadena has also been improved.

Beaches:

It is really one broad stretch of sand (the longest on the Costa del Sol), dissected by the marina. A consistent winner of the European 'Blue-Flag' award means it is clean and safe.

All manner of water sports are on hand including water skiing and parasailing

Days Out:

Shoppers are well catered for with more to offer than most resorts and self-caterers have a selection of large supermarkets to stock-up from.

If you fancy a change of scenery buses and trains link the resort with Torremelinos, for even more choice.

There is a waterpark near Mijas (Aquatica Mijas) with a good selection of wet-knuckle rides plus two adventure play areas for the younger ones.

Granada, Gibralter, Marbella and Nerja are all within a couple of hours driving distance, see Costa del Sol main page. Ofcourse the Costa del Sol is a golfer's paradise with huge courses just a small 'chip' away.

Nights Out:

Every kind of night time attraction is here. Dozens of bars offering 'live' entertainment, karaoke, etc and restaurants to suit any taste.

Bucket and Spade Brigade:

You won't find a Spanish resort with more going on for kids. For starters Fuengirola boasts a waterpark, a zoo and a funpark right by the beach, plus the added attractions of Tivoli World just up the coast.

The beaches are safe, although you will have to cross a busy road to get to them
