The Costa de la Luz is still a rare sight in the holiday brochures but as it continues grow in popularity we can only hope the region will thrive and strive to be different.

A world away from Benidorm, the government has imposed some tough building restrictions in an attempt to divert it from the fate of the other Costa's. However, work is going on and will be for years to come so expect to see the skyline dotted with cranes.

If you are staying in Islantilla or Isla Canela flights usually go to Faro airport in Portugal which is nearer to those resorts.

• Cadiz is also nearby and most tourists are tempted by a trip to Jerez - sherry country.
• Morocco is just a short ferry journey across the sea.
• If you're pining for a taste of home Gibralter is only a short drive away and so are some of the attractions of Portugal.
• Golfers can treat themselves to some of the best courses in Spain
