What's it really like? Transfer time: Approx 40 minutes Location: Two more suburbs of Playa de las Americas, the resorts of Costa Adeje and Playa Paraiso have everything mass-tourism can throw them. Quieter than their brash neighbour, the resorts are aimed at young families and couples who prefer their home comforts and don't want to be too far away from the action. It's only ten minutes in a taxi to Playa de las Americas or the more energetic can walk there along the seafront. It takes about an hour on foot, however there are so many bars along the route many people don't get that far!. Adeje and Paraiso have their own endless supply of bars, fun pubs, restaurants and even a few lap-dancing joints to keep the revellers fed and amused. Hotels have spread like a rash along this stretch of coast and some sort of building work always seems to be going on. Although the resorts have their devotees, neither can be called pretty towns and there are some areas already in need of a facelift. There may also be problem with traffic noise close to the very busy main road whilst some of the accommodation furthest from the seafront may involve a steep climb.
Beaches: Playa Paraiso, despite its name has hardly any beach just a saltwater lido (open-air swimming pool) and it's certainly no paradise! Fanabe beach is close to Adeje but it's fairly small and crowded in the peak months. Similar-sized beaches are closeby; all of a similar standard. Seek local advice regarding undercurrents and sea conditions. Many bars and shops close to the seafront provide refreshments, etc. Days Out: Mount Teide offers spectacular views as you journey through the barren volcanic landscape where scenes from 'Stars Wars' were allegedly filmed. There's also a water park nearby and Costa Adeje has its own 27-hole golf course. Boat trips to see wild dolphins and whales off the coast or for a close-up view of sea life try Loro Parque near Puerto de la Cruz. Mini golf, go-karting and bungy jumping are just a few of the other attractions close at hand. Shopping in Adeje and Paraiso is generally good but there's much more choice in Playa del las Americas. Nights Out: A watered-down version of Playa de las Americas - the same type of restaurants and bars but fewer of them and more restrained. There's a huge choice of places to eat - many British restaurants. Places providing quieter nights out are harder to find but not impossible. Bucket and Spade Brigade: Younger children may find some of the nightlife a little over-powering but the you can't knock the entertainment on offer here for them. The beach is adequately sheltered and there's plenty to do on the island generally. |
