What's it really like ? Arenal d'en Castell Location: A sprawling resort of modern, mainly low-rise developments nestling between pine trees and scrubland which rolls down to the coast. Best suited for those looking for relaxation. Arenal d'en Castell isn't best placed for exploring the island because the landscape dictates that you have to take quite a detour to drive to the west Beach: The bay (above) is almost enclosed by rocky outcrops and therefore well protected from the elements with superb sand and a gently shelving beach. A recent winner of the prestigious 'Blue Flag' for cleanliness it has enough sun beds without too much clutter and plenty of quieter areas. Cafés and bars by the beach. Out and About: Watersports and a children's play area. The town has just enough to offer families, with plenty of bars, some quite lively, without being over excessive, and a good selection of restaurants. Enough shops to meet most day to day needs. Bus services to Mahon and nearby fishing village, Fornells. Transfer time(approx): 35 minutes Punta Prima Location: One of Menorca's first resorts but maturing nicely. Punta Prima is another fairly typical tourist town best suited to sun seekers and families who prefer the simple life. Beaches: A huge gently shelving and sandy beach against a backdrop of countryside and dunes. Because the coastline here is exposed there are undercurrents in the sea so a flag system operates. Out and About: The atmosphere of the town itself is like a permanent siesta - boring for anyone seeking excitement. A few bars spring into life in the evenings and there's a disco. Because it is situated on the southernmost point of the island the only way is up and Punta Prima has an excellent road link to Mahon and beyond. Transfer time (approx): 30 minutes |
