What's it really like? Transfer time: Approx 40 minutes Location: A happy medium between a traditional Greek village and a modern, growing resort. It is set around a picturesque bay surrounded by pine-clad hills which sweep down to the coast. The main town has evolved just enough to provide visitors with a few of life's basics and is therefore best suited to those looking for a stress-free holiday. Being situated so far along the north coast doesn't put Alikes in the best position for exploring the island unless by hired car - taxis can be expensive from here. Suffers a lack of pavements in places and unlit roads at night. Beaches: A 2km strip of narrow beach consisting of good quality sand, offering plenty of space and backed by dunes in places. It can get quite breezy along the seafront creating ideal conditions for windsurfers. Other Watersports include jet skis and paragliding. Days out: A very basic beach resort with no man-made attractions either modern or ancient. Excursions available to all the main sights. Shops provide all the necessities in addition to the usual souvenirs. Zakynthos Town is a 25 minute drive away and has more choice. Nights out: Tavernas and bars with some with 'live' music and dancing. A choice of about 30 places to eat mainly along the main street, with one or two dotted along the seafront. Menus to suit most tourist tastes. Bucket and Spade Brigade: Good for kids wanting nothing more than a simple beach holiday. |
