What's it really like ? Transfer time: Approx 60 minutes Location: There's varied opinion about Alcudia. The major tour operators recommend the resort for families, and while it isn't rowdy, it's also popular with young singles due to the large number of clubs and bars. So if you're happy with that mix it's the ideal choice. The town would never win a beauty contest, although it does have an interesting water feature with canals and lakes. Clusters of private villas here and there give the place an airy feel and the tree-lined promenade is one of its best features. Beaches: A recent 'Blue Flag' winner for cleanliness this long curve of white sand - 9 miles of it - dotted with palm trees makes a striking scene. The beach is well equipped with sun loungers and parasols which tend to concentrate bodies and cause overcrowding. For some space, take your towels and set up camp down the other end.
Days Out: The old part of town, behind the roman walls is well worth exploring since it's on your doorstep, and on the edge of the resort is a popular water park which attracts visitors from all over the island. That's in addition to all the usual land sports, Watersports and boat trips. Bargain hunters flock to Alcudia's market on Tuesday and Sunday mornings. A 5 mile cycle lane exists between Alcudia and C'an Picafort. Nights Out: The concentration of bars and clubs around the port area attracts the young. Elsewhere it tends to be more low key with cabaret thrown in. A good choice of restaurants and fast food outlets bring the place alive at night. Bucket and Spade Brigade: The magnificent beach and nearby water park act as a magnet for families. No doubt young teenagers will head for the port or blow their spending money in the amusement arcades. |
