What's it really like? Transfer time: Approx 25 minutes. Location: One of Corfu's best get-away-from-it-all resorts thanks to the townsfolk who have embraced tourism without letting it completely take over their lives. Mountainous countryside has also shielded the environment from the bulldozers and created an oasis of calm, set around a glorious protective bay. Most interest lies in the beach area where there is a good mix of tourist facilities providing a nice balance with the more traditional Greek communities inland. Not suitable for the less mobile. Beaches: A long sweeping curve of sand and pebbles with warm shallow water, against a back-drop of pine-clad hills. Rarely gets overcrowded. Some beach bars serving drinks and snacks. Limited water sports. Days out: Boat trips. Walkers take to the hills while golfers head for Ermones. 'Aqualand' waterpark is a 20 minute drive. For the size of the resort there's a fair number of shops, including mini-markets and souvenirs. More choice in Corfu Town half-an-hour away by bus. Nights out: Quaint tavernas by the sea supplemented by touristy restaurants. Outdoor dancing in high season, nothing rowdy. Bucket and Spade Brigade: Kids will enjoy the beach and the nearby water park . Not ideal for children in buggies due to hilly location |
